1927 POR – Ranger and Sea Guide Trade Badges

Trade badges are awarded to Rangers and Sea Guides earning their own living (or qualified to do so) in any profession or trade:-

a) After one year’s paid work in any one place of employment, on the recommendation of the Employer or Supervisor.

b) On the production of a certificate from a Trade or Technical School.

c) After a year’s voluntary and continuous work of not less than thirty-six hours per week, on the recommendation of the Employer or Supervisor.

The professions are placed in eight different groups, each group having its own Trade Badge.

A Ranger or Sea Guide must have been six months in the Company before she may wear a Trade Badge. She may only wear one Trade Badge. The Badges are red for Rangers, and work on the right upper arm; blue for Sea guides and worn on the left upper arm.

Group 1 – SCIENCE AND HEALTH:

Medical Student or Doctor. Hospital Nurse or Orderly. Dispenser. Masseuse. Physical Trainer. Sanitary Inspector. Health Visitor, etc.

Group 2 – ARTS AND CRAFTS:

Architect. Artist. Embroideress or Lacemaker. Designer. Wood Worker. Sculptor or Modeller. Leather Worker (by hand). Bookbinder (by hand). Handloom Weaver. Toy-maker (by hand). Ceramic Worker. Photographer. Photographic Process Worker. Lithographer. Dancer. Actress. Authoress. Musician or Singer.

Group 3 – PROFESSIONAL:

Teacher (School or Private). Journalist. Civil Service. Surveyor. Quantity Surveyor. Secretary. Librarian. Draughtman.

Group 4 – MANUFACTURER:

Textile Worker. Leather Worker. Confectioner. Ceramic Worker (in factory). Dressmaker. Jam-maker. Milliner. Printer. Toy-maker. Upholstress, etc.

Group 5 – COMMERCIAL:

Clerk. Accountant. Traveller. Foreign Correspondent. Manageress. Shop Assistant, etc.

Group 6 – HOME CRAFT:

Child Nurse. Cook. Domestic Service. Laundress. Needlework. Knitter and Crochet Maker. Carpenter, etc.

Group 7 – OUTDOOR WORK:

Agriculturist. Dairy Farmer. Horticulturist. Bee Farmer. Poultry Farmer. Fruit Grower. Market Gardener. Veterinary Surgeon.

Group 9 – TECHNICAL:

Machinists. Engineering. Telephonists. Telegraphists. Motor Driver.
